The History Behind the Name: Surrounded by the hills of Cincinnati, the Bank of the Ohio Valley first opened its doors in 1858. Just 12 years later, the first of many acquisitions began to shape what would later be known as Fifth Third Bank. The unique name is the result of two organizations – Fifth National Bank and Third National Bank – uniting at the turn of the century.
Since its beginning, Fifth Third Bank has remained true to a philosophy of strength and stability. The growth of the bank spans nearly 150 years, and Fifth Third Bank is consistently recognized as one of the top-performing banks in the communities it serves. Fifth Third entered the South Florida market in 1991 and, through its heritage of hard work, quickly amassed approximately 16 locations and $1.1 billion in assets. The 2005 acquisition of a local community bank created three Fifth Third affiliates to serve customers throughout Florida: Fifth Third Bank (South Florida) based in Naples; Fifth Third Bank (Central Florida) based in Orlando, and Fifth Third Bank (Tampa Bay) based in Tampa.
Led by President and CEO David A. Call, Fifth Third Bank (South Florida) has assets of $4 billion and more than 60 retail banking centers serving the communities of Naples, Marco Island, Ft. Myers, Port Charlotte, Sarasota, Bradenton, Cape Coral, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Ft. Lauderdale. Fifth Third Bank offers full-service banking convenience, including mortgage private banking, corporate banking, trust, investments, and currency exchange for 110 countries.
